Satish Kaushik is an Indian film director, producer, actor, and writer who has made a significant contribution to the Hindi film industry. Born on April 13, 1956, in Mahendragarh, Haryana, Satish Kaushik began his journey in the entertainment industry as a theatre artist. He later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in films and television.

Early Life and Career:

Satish Kaushik was born and raised in a middle-class family in Haryana. He graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. After completing his studies, he joined the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi to pursue a career in acting. Kaushik was a bright student and quickly became one of the most talented actors in the school. He graduated from NSD in 1978 and started working in theatre.

Kaushik worked with the famous theatre group 'Sambhav' for several years and performed in various plays across the country. He then moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in films and television. His first job in Mumbai was as an assistant director to Shekhar Kapoor in the film 'Masoom' (1983). He also acted in the film as a minor character.



Acting Career:

Satish Kaushik's acting career started with the film 'Woh Saat Din' (1983), in which he played a small role. He then appeared in several films in minor roles, including 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' (1983), 'Arjun' (1985), and 'Mr. India' (1987). However, it was his role as 'Calendar' in the film 'Mr. India' that brought him recognition and fame. The film was a huge success and Kaushik became a household name overnight.

After the success of 'Mr. India', Satish Kaushik started getting more offers for character roles in films. He appeared in several successful films in the 1990s, including 'Ram Lakhan' (1989), 'Kroadh' (1990), 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja' (1993), 'Zamana Deewana' (1995), and 'Judwaa' (1997).

However, Kaushik's real passion was always filmmaking. He wanted to direct films and had already started writing scripts. In 1993, he directed his first film 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja'. The film was a big-budget production and starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in lead roles. However, the film was a box office disaster and Kaushik faced a lot of criticism for its failure.

Undeterred by the failure of his first film, Satish Kaushik continued to work on his next project. He directed 'Prem' (1995), which was a remake of the Telugu film 'Prema'. The film starred Sanjay Kapoor and Tabu in lead roles and was a moderate success at the box office.

In 1999, Satish Kaushik directed 'Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain', starring Anil Kapoor and Kajol in lead roles. The film was a huge commercial success and received critical acclaim for its performances and storyline. Kaushik's direction was also praised and he won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for the film.
