Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, better known simply as Shakira, is a Colombian singer, songwriter, dancer, and philanthropist. She was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia, to parents of Lebanese and Colombian descent.

Shakira began writing and composing music at an early age, and released her first album, "Magia," when she was just 13 years old. She continued to release Spanish-language albums throughout the 1990s, but it wasn't until the release of her fifth studio album, "Laundry Service," in 2001 that she gained international recognition. The album featured the hit singles "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Clothes," and sold over 13 million copies worldwide.

Over the years, Shakira has become known for her unique blend of Latin, Arabic, and rock influences in her music, as well as her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. She has won numerous awards, including three Grammy Awards and twelve Latin Grammy Awards, and has sold over 70 million records worldwide.

Aside from her music career, Shakira is also known for her philanthropic work. She founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation in 1997, which provides education and nutrition to children in impoverished areas of Colombia. She has also been involved in various other charitable causes, including supporting UNICEF and advocating for universal access to education.

Shakira is married to Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, and they have two sons together. She continues to release music and tour the world, inspiring fans with her message of unity and positivity.
